Overall Trend + Off the Shoulder Top

Hi BEAUTIES! I hope you had a fabulous Easter weekend! 🙂 I’m back today with a pair of trendy overalls by MCCALL’S! When the company posted a poll on their Facebook group asking us what pattern we want to sew next, this was my immediate choice! I’m glad to see they went with it! I mainly wanted to see their finishing techniques for sewing pants and since overalls are super “trendy” at the moment I knew that would make it fun as well! 😉 You can find the sew-along page where other overalls are being made, HERE.

Style Tip: Styling overall’s can be tricky and I’ve seen it done so many ways. My biggest tip would be to choose a feminine dressy top to play around with the casual downplayed look that overalls can give off. The pull between casual and dressy is always a good mix, in my opinion. I would also style this more simply by swapping out the heels for a pair of white sneakers, to give it an even more casual/cute feel. 🙂

Enjoy today’s double pattern review and style photos below! I will be announcing the winner of the 1k GIVEAWAY soon, so stay tuned! XO

OVERALL PATTERN REVIEW

Pattern Description: Misses’ Flared Jeans and Overalls, Skinny Jeans, and Shortfalls MCCALL’S 7547

Pattern Sizing: 6 – 14, I cut a size 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like mostly everything about the pattern aside from the lapped zipper at the side.

Fabric Used: Denim from Jo-ann Fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I used an invisible zipper at the side seam and disregarded the lapped zipper, I also used 2 hook and eyes instead of the button closure.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I might try the tapered pants version. I would recommend the pattern. It has a mock fly front so that makes it a bit easier than the average “jean”.

OFF SHOULDER TOP PATTERN REVIEW

Pattern Description: Misses’ Off-the-Shoulder Tops, Tunic and Dress MCCALL’S 7543

Pattern Sizing: Xsm – Med, I cut a size Xsm.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the simplicity of the design mixed with the cute sleeve detail. Also, of all the off shoulder tops I’ve sewn this is the one that fits me the best around the shoulders, I’m not sure if it has to do with the width of the band but it fit very well. Thankfully!

Fabric Used: GINGHAM

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes! If you like this style it’s a quick one to sew up that will show of cute fabrics. Perfect for spring and summer!
