Megan Nielsen: Flint Pants + Rowan Tee

Megan Nielson: Flint Pants + Rowan Tee - ROSY | PENA

Hi BEAUTIES! Today’s post is total 70’s vibes with a splash of boho! 😉 Which I LOVE. I’ve mentioned on my INSTAGRAM stories a few weeks ago about wanting to sew these pants and finally decided to give them a try! The complete DIY look is made using Megan Nielsen, FLINT pants and ROWAN tee. She’s an independent pattern company (goals!) and this is my first time purchasing any of her patterns. I have to say overall I’m very impressed! You get the sense of the extra effort she put’s into her instructions and design. I reviewed both patterns for you below along with some style photos! Enjoy and have a fabulous day!

Sew Sew Def Mag Issue 2 launched yesterday, so make sure to grab your copy! 🙂 I’m an ongoing contributor and this month my article is on summer trends and tips for working with sheer fabrics! You can grab your digital issue, HERE. Let me know in the comments what you think about the magazine? Also what you have been sewing lately? Spring is in full gear and summer is on it’s way! There’s tons of maxi skirts and summer dresses to be made! XO

FLINT PANTS

Pattern Description: Wide leg cropped pants or shorts with unique crossover closure at the side seam. Pattern sits on the natural waist and features hidden closure at the left pocket , release tucks at the front, darts at the back, slash pockets, two waistband options and two lengths – FLINT PANTS.

Pattern Sizing: XS-XL, I cut size Small.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, she also has walk through TUTORIALS on her blog, which can be very helpful.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the design. I wasn’t aware of how wide the pant legs actually are until I tried them on, it’s a whole lot of pant! This is great for lighter weight denims, etc. so I would recommend sticking with lightweight fabrics or you may feel weighed down pretty quickly. The faux pocket on the side with the tie closure is clever, so there’s no need for a zipper. Also love the option of using buttons at the waistband instead of the ties.

Fabric Used: Stretch Lightweight Denim.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? If you like wide leg pants, you’ll love the flint pants.

ROWAN BODYSUIT & TEE

Pattern Description: The ultimate wardrobe builder fitted tee and bodysuit. Pattern features figure hugging close fit, three neckline options, three sleeve lengths and tee or bodysuit versions – ROWAN TEE.

Pattern Sizing: XS-XL, I cut size Small.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, it’s a very simple pattern to construct.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Love the neck variations.

Fabric Used: ITY Knit.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, it’s a perfect wardrobe builder. I’ve been meaning to sew a bodysuit in a Ponte Knit so I will give that a go this Fall. 🙂

  1. You do such beautiful work Rosy. Keep looking beautiful and continue to soar like an eagle. I just love everything you create.

    1. Thank you SO much Brandy, that means a whole lot! I’m glad you enjoy my makes. I love sharing them! XO

  2. The Flint pants look great! I think that because you have long legs (from what I can tell) , it suits you perfectly. How about Megan’s pattern envelope designs? I think they are so pretty.

    1. Thank you Dari! I think I have a long torso and these are high waist so it kind of works! They can always be cropped also I’ll probably try that on my next version cause this is a whole lot of pant! Lol. Love her aesthetic on her patterns, so clean and pretty! I bought the PDF version but the cover page is the same on the paper patterns. XO

  3. Love the Flint Pants! I want to pick up that pattern and give it a go. Currently having a go at the wide leg pants from MimiG. It’s the pattern with the vest, coat, shirt and pants. I’m loving the wide leg pants style! Perfect for my job (Music Teacher). Was the body suit easy to sew? I’m willing to have a go at that too. Haven’t sewn a body suit before 🙂

    1. Yes I’m very familiar with the Mimi pattern it’s definitely one of my all time faves! The wide pants are a great staple piece. Awesome job by the way, I always admired my music teachers in school! 🙂 I’ve made the closet case Nettie bodysuit a few times before and the construction method in the Megan Neilsen instructions are slightly different than the Nettie but nothing too difficult. This Rowan version I’m wearing is actually the tee, tucked into the flint pants.

  4. Love both of these pattern…I will be ordering both. I have been long looking for a bodysuit pattern and I love the wrap bow tie on the pants. Rosy….will you be talking about the motivation you made to the bathing suit cover up from Sew Def magazine…on your blog???

    1. Awesome! I really think you’ll enjoy them both. I too love the wrap bow tie, such a cute feature. I am able to post on my blog about the magazine issues but not until the following month. So next month I’ll talk more about the bathing suit cover up! XO
