💖 SHOP MY PATTERNS: ROSYPENAPATTERNS.COM 💖
As for today’s post, this romper and overlay is something I made a few months ago with the fall season in mind. The pattern I used is MCCALL’S 7608. I grabbed view D bodice with view A shorts and added a super long/skinny sash to the finished look. The colors work great for the season and there is still limited yardage available, HERE and HERE.

DIY Train Overlay Tutorial
Supplies: Measuring tape, yardstick, marking tool.
Measurements: Waist x 2; Waist to floor.
Steps:
- Cut a rectangle that is your waist measurement x 2. By your waist to floor measurement (plus a few inches if you want the “train” to drag on the floor) Ex. My waist is 28”, x 2 is 56”. The length I choose was about 49″.
- Hem finish the sides of the rectangle that will show at the center front of your garment.
- Gather the waist area of the rectangle and baste the wrong side of the overlay to the right side of the lower waist line on your romper, jumpsuit or whatever garment you wish to add the overlay to. (Do this step before attaching the lower portion to the bodice).
- Continue constructing your garment as normal and hem the overlay your desired amount.
- You’re all finished! XO
