Classic Jumpsuit + Pattern Details

Hello BEAUTIES! Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was amazing! 🙂 I’m SO excited for today’s post because it has been a WHILE since I’ve paired up multiple patterns to create a specific look envisioned in my mind! It really is great having the knowledge to sew and even better using that skill to go further and design your own clothes, in a sense! 😉

My inspiration look stemmed from this gorgeous photo of Miroslava Duma, seriously this girl is fashion GOALS! When I look at an outfit that inspires me I usually do not try to replicate it entirely (obviously). Instead I use it as a jumping off point. I’m more inspired by silhouettes than actual fabrics used etc.

I combined two commercial patterns, New Look 6446; Simplicity 8058 and used a gorgeous linen blend that you can find here. Overall I am so pleased with how it turned out! 🙂 I reviewed one of the patterns for you below and also included the steps I used to “hack” into this Classic Style Jumpsuit! I won’t keep you too long today, ENJOY the post and I will talk to you very soon! XO

Here’s what I did to “Get the Look”

  1. I used the bodice pieces of New Look 6446.
  2. I laid the pants pieces of Simplicity 8058 over the coordinating pants (front and back) of the NL pattern by lining up the grain lines and crotch lines.
  3. I traced the shape of NL from the crotch up and graded into the shape of the fit and flare simplicity pattern BUT I added 5/8″ to that leg shape since that pattern is meant for stretch fabric. You definitely want to add more room here, unless you are using stretch fabric than you should be fine!
  4. I added 2″ in length at the knee line, I wanted the pant to skim the floor just like inspiration photo.
  5. Once I traced around the shape I cut and sewed up the patterns as normal using the instructions for the NL pattern. 5/8″ SA.
  6. I used a 2″ hem. Try on your jumpsuit with the shoes you plan on wearing before you decide your hem length.
  7. I made my own tie belt with a finished measurement of 3″ wide by 70″ long.
  8. I choose to do a side zipper instead of center back as NL suggests, this is just my personal preference. You can definitely use the CB zipper.

Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Misses cropped jumpsuit or romper and mini or maxi length dress. New Look 6446.

Pattern Sizing: 6 – 18, I cut size 6.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Similar, yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Definitely.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the classic shape of the neckline.

Fabric Used: Kaufman Linen Blend.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes, see above “get the look” notes.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Possibly for spring in the original version. I do recommend the pattern, it seems to be loved by many and for good reason.

  1. Rosy, this jumpsuit is awesome! You did a wonderful job and I like the inspiration photo, but I LOVE yours! This fabric is so lush looking! You mentioned the fabric is a linen blend… However, it looks more like an expensive lightweight wool. A beautiful project indeed! (And you’re gorgeous in it too!)

  2. You go girl!! Such a cute look! I loved that you created this based off the silhouette of a photo – I think we all have a sense of our body types and what would compliment us, instead of us shoving ourselves into something not as flattering. Also love the 2″ hem at the bottom – I need to try that! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. THANK YOU KATIE! You’re the sweetest! I’m glad you’ve been liking the posts lately! I’m enjoying including more Fashion into the blogs, I love that you can appreciate the silhouette approach! So happy you’re inspired! XO
